Robyn’s 2010 song, “Dancing on My Own,” is fantastic. It has a unique beat and tells a heart-wrenching, emotional story. Best of all, the story shows resilience.
The song never really was a top 40 radio station hit. When it was released in the United States, it peaked at number three in the Hot Dance Club songs chart (read: not Billboard Hot 100) and was only there for two weeks. In Robyn’s home country of Sweden, it ended up taking six weeks to get to number one.
Where the song was big: within the LGBT community. “Dancing on My Own” was played in clubs around the world.

A capella group Pentatonix released a cover of “Dancing on My Own”. In 24 hours, it already had over a million views.
The version of “Dancing on My Own” I have purchased is by British singer Calum Scott. Ironically, if you Google “Dancing on My Own,” his music video — and not Robyn’s — is the first link. In 2015, Calum was a contestant on “Britain’s Got Talent”. If you haven’t, you should really watch his adorable audition of “Dancing on My Own” on that show. There’s a special surprise. (By the way, he made it to the finals, but didn’t win the competition).
