Recycling your Christmas lights
The Recycling Association of Minnesota has a great list of sites that collect Christmas lights year round and during the holiday and post-holiday season.

Hennepin County will recycle holiday lights at drop-off locations in Bloomington and Brooklyn Park. There is no fee.
According to Hennepin County, you can put holiday and string lights in the garbage.
