The North Star State is home to plenty of lakes (way more than 10,000, actually), rich forests and lots of adventure.

Brainerd Lakes
The Brainerd Lakes area is simply beautiful, surrounded by water and the exotic scenery of the forest. The area is home to 450 lakes, and there is plenty to do, whether you want to be on the water or on the shore. It’s a simple two drive north of the Twin Cities.

Baxter
If you’re looking for a getaway that is a bit more metropolitan but out of the cities, head up to the city of Baxter. Just outside of Brainerd, Baxter will have chain hotels, but easy access to the Brainerd Lakes and all the area has to offer.
Northwoods
If you want a more rustic and remote escape, head into Minnesota’s Northwoods. Anchored by the city of Bemidji and Blackduck Lake, the Northwoods give you plenty of opportunities to enjoy watersports, camp, and enjoy all that nature has to offer. No matter if it’s summer or winter, the Northwoods are open for all seasons.
Duluth
Located on Lake Superior, Duluth offers museums, antique shops, good breweries and dining, and family-friendly activities perfect for those visiting. You cannot miss the lift bridge near Canal Park; it’ll be hard to miss. The big ships docked in the port are worth visiting, too, as they reveal a fascinating history of Minnesota’s past.

Jay Cooke State Park
This adventuresome park dwells 10 miles from Duluth. It is famous for its lakes, valleys, and rustic structure, featuring rocks and beautiful scenery. Jay Cooke also features a 50 mile hiking trail.
Hungry Jack Lake
From Duluth, head up Highway 61 to Grand Marais and then head due north, deep into the Superior National Forest to find Hungry Jack Lake. Known for its small mouth bass fishery, and beautiful scenery, this is the place to be if you really want to turn the phone off and unplug.
Minnehaha Falls
Being one of the oldest spots of Minnesota, Minnehaha Falls in south Minneapolis provides a mesmerizing scene with its 53-foot drop. The Falls become quite a site in the winter when they freeze over, and also draw crowds in after a heavy rain. Minnehaha Park is connected to miles worth of trails known as the Grand Rounds, giving you the ability to walk along the Mississippi River and take in some incredible views, especially in the fall. The area is dog-friendly, with a popular dog park nearby.
