In 2017, there are exactly 40 days from Thanksgiving Day to New Years Day. And with the elimination of the eighth floor display at Macy’s in downtown Minneapolis and Holiday Lights in the Park in Saint Paul, along with the disappointing change from tradition at Holidazzle, more people than ever are looking for new holiday activities. Enter “40 Ways to Holiday.” Each day between November 23 and January 1 will have at least one event worth checking out, along with plenty of giveaways along the way! Find the full list of days here.

Featured pick: Annual holiday play at Bachman’s
Albert the Elf is admiring the skills of his favorite superheroes and is eager to become one himself! But when Super Rudolph — a popular Christmas toy and Albert’s desired sidekick — is in high demand and short supply, Albert’s superhero dreams are at risk. Will this elf get everything he wants this Christmas, or give up on his dream and turn in his cape? You’ll have to go see the play to find out!
You’ll not only see Albert the Elf at this play, but you’ll also find the big man, Santa! It features a sing-along, so make sure you warm up your voice on the car ride over!
The all-ages play, happening at the Bachman’s location on Lyndale Avenue in Minneapolis, lasts approximately 20 minutes. Seating is first come, first serve. Showtimes are Saturdays at 10:00 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1:00 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. On Sundays, you’ll see Albert the Elf at 11:30 a.m., 1:00 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. The show runs through December 17.

- A few years ago, I met the households behind what’s nearly a full city block of holiday light displays in Saint Paul. Holiday Lights on York Avenue even has its own website. The light show is set to music, and you’ll be able to listen to it from the radio in your car. It boasts more than 60,000 lights across 10 yards. The show starts on Friday, November 24 and runs through New Years Eve. You can see it lit up nightly from 5:00 – 10:00 p.m. Bring a non-perishable food donation for Merrick Community Services, a non-profit serving the east side of Saint Paul since 1908. To find Holiday Lights on York Avenue, have your GPS take you to 1526 York Avenue, Saint Paul 55106.
- The Children’s Theatre Company (CTC) is bringing back audience favorite, “Dr. Seuss’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas” for the holidays. The production was commissioned, developed and premiered at CTC in 1994 and was performed on Broadway in 2006. The all-ages show runs Wednesdays through Sundays until January 7, however, CTC staff tell me that shows towards the end of the run frequently sell out, meaning you should go sooner than later. “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” runs 90 minutes with a 15 minute intermission. Children newborn to three years can get a lap pass for $5. There is a sensory-friendly performance on Friday, January 5 at 7:00 p.m.
