Below, you’ll find homeowners, nonprofits, and drive-through light shows around Minnesota and western Wisconsin.
Many thanks to Sam’s Christmas Village and Light Tour in Somerset, Wisconsin for returning to present this year’s Guide so I can offer this roundup free of charge. If you want to see a lot of lights, Sam’s is the place to go! They boast more than 12 MILLION. Plus, depending on the night you attend, you can either walk-through or drive-through their display.

All of the information in this Guide is verified by me and accurate for 2023. Note that Christmas in Color at Valleyfair and Holiday in Lights at the Anoka County Fairgrounds are not happening this year. Also, Holiday Lights in the Park at Phalen Park in St. Paul ended years ago. People still ask about it, though.

The Estate is transformed into an illuminated winter wonderland, with over 20 miles of musical synchronized lights strung over 20 acres of lakeshore property. This outdoor walking experience permits guests to stroll the vineyards and grounds and enjoy a variety of attractions like Candy Cane Lane, life-size Nativity scene, photo opportunity at Santa’s Sleigh, real live winter llamas, inflatable Snowman Ball, children’s Snow Maze, kids Boot Hockey Arena, and Nana’s Gingerbread House! Once you arrive, guests also have the opportunity to purchase Holly Trolley rides in the Wine Store for a special guided tour of the decorated grounds.
Santa will arrive every night from November 17-December 23 from 5:00-7:30 P.M. during the Christmas season. All guests will enjoy the pleasure of meeting the famous Mr. Claus as he wanders the Spirit of Winter event. Grab a hot chocolate, cookies, or roast a s’more at the S’more Station! Adults can enjoy mulled wine, boozy hot cocoa, local brews, and our full range of wine at the Polar Bear Bar! And the Blizzard Bistro will also be serving up items like chili and flatbreads. Be sure to check out the Wine Store for the perfect holiday gift including holiday and Sovereign merchandise, stuffed Christmas llamas, and, of course, bottles of Sovereign Estate Wine!

Dakota City Heritage Village is the place to find warmth, holiday cheer and goodwill the first two weekends in December, Saturday and Sunday, December 2, 3, 9, and 10 from 3:00-8:00 P.M. on the Dakota County Fairgrounds in Farmington. All ages will enjoy the many displays and buildings that reflect the sights, sounds, and scents of the season. The buildings are heated and horse-drawn trolleys will be available to take visitors throughout the village. Hot chocolate, apple cider, hot soups and ice cream are available in the Drug Store. Children will also enjoy crafts and writing letters to Santa in the schoolhouse. The letters can be mailed in the special North Pole mailbox, or taken directly to Santa when they visit with him in the Depot. Choir groups and musicians will be sharing music in the Church. Sing-along Christmas Carols will be part of the program. Some of the choir groups will be strolling through the village as they sing. Demonstrations will take place in the Carpenter shop, Harris House, McMenomy House and the Blacksmith Shop.

Stroll through the Arboretum gardens decked out in Winter Lights. Enjoy fresh air as you explore outdoor light displays, highlighting flowers, trees and the beauty of nature, on the one-mile, self-guided walking route. New for 2023 will be a color-changing tunnel, a Winter Village on Scarecrow Hill and a field of sunflowers, all with more lights than ever before! Revisit the 16-foot Weeping Willow in a new space and walk through a giant apple, which pays tribute to the Arboretum’s Horticultural Research Center’s apple breeding, including the Honeycrisp apple. Roast marshmallows over an open fire at the S’mores Village (s’mores kits for four people on sale for $7) or visit the Oswald Visitor Center for sandwiches, light snacks and a full cash bar. The Arboretum’s Oswald Visitor Center and Snyder Building will be decorated for the season with a 25-foot Cuetlaxóchitl Tree (pronounced “kwet-la-SHO-she”) (Poinsettia Tree) and multiple seasonally decorated, fresh-cut trees. The Cuetlaxóchitl Tree, created using more than 500 living plants, will display colors of red, white and pink poinsettias. You might also hear holiday tunes from local performers from our live Winter Music Series, offered on most weekends. Don’t miss the special theme nights for families, couples and photographers offered on select nights.

Dakota City Heritage Village is the place to find warmth, holiday cheer and goodwill the first two weekends in December, Saturday and Sunday, December 2, 3, 9, and 10 from 3:00-8:00 P.M. on the Dakota County Fairgrounds in Farmington. All ages will enjoy the many displays and buildings that reflect the sights, sounds, and scents of the season. The buildings are heated and horse-drawn trolleys will be available to take visitors throughout the village. Hot chocolate, apple cider, hot soups and ice cream are available in the Drug Store. Children will also enjoy crafts and writing letters to Santa in the schoolhouse. The letters can be mailed in the special North Pole mailbox, or taken directly to Santa when they visit with him in the Depot. Choir groups and musicians will be sharing music in the Church. Sing-along Christmas Carols will be part of the program. Some of the choir groups will be strolling through the village as they sing. Demonstrations will take place in the Carpenter shop, Harris House, McMenomy House and the Blacksmith Shop.

Last month, the town of Norwood Young America tragically lost our beloved David Rain to the battle against mental health. David was the school’s Band Director for almost 20 years and the town’s Santa Claus for the last 10. His bright spirit touched so many lives, so in his memory, I’ve decided to create a Christmas light show like no other. The audio that accompanies the spectacle is taken from a heartfelt performance by David himself. During the Christmas Eve service in 2020 at All Saints Lutheran Church, David graced us all with his beautiful trombone melodies, and now, his music will light up our hearts once again.

The Estate is transformed into an illuminated winter wonderland, with over 20 miles of musical synchronized lights strung over 20 acres of lakeshore property. This outdoor walking experience permits guests to stroll the vineyards and grounds and enjoy a variety of attractions like Candy Cane Lane, life-size Nativity scene, photo opportunity at Santa’s Sleigh, real live winter llamas, inflatable Snowman Ball, children’s Snow Maze, kids Boot Hockey Arena, and Nana’s Gingerbread House! Once you arrive, guests also have the opportunity to purchase Holly Trolley rides in the Wine Store for a special guided tour of the decorated grounds.
Santa will arrive every night from November 17-December 23 from 5:00-7:30 P.M. during the Christmas season. All guests will enjoy the pleasure of meeting the famous Mr. Claus as he wanders the Spirit of Winter event. Grab a hot chocolate, cookies, or roast a s’more at the S’more Station! Adults can enjoy mulled wine, boozy hot cocoa, local brews, and our full range of wine at the Polar Bear Bar! And the Blizzard Bistro will also be serving up items like chili and flatbreads. Be sure to check out the Wine Store for the perfect holiday gift including holiday and Sovereign merchandise, stuffed Christmas llamas, and, of course, bottles of Sovereign Estate Wine!
