In January 2026, I asked people on the Give Me The Mike Facebook page to share their favorite places for Broasted chicken in Minnesota. Hundreds of comments came in, with recommendations from across the state.
The 16 places below are ranked by the number of votes they received. Whether you’re looking for a longtime local favorite or a new place worth a road trip, use this guide to find some of Minnesota’s most recommended Broasted chicken.
What is Broasted chicken?
Broasted chicken is chicken cooked using a pressure-frying process. Instead of frying in an open fryer, the chicken cooks in hot oil inside a sealed pressure fryer, helping it retain moisture while developing a crispy coating.
The term Broasted® is actually a trademark of the Wisconsin-based Broaster Company. The cooking method was developed by L.A.M. Phelan in the 1950s. Genuine Broaster Chicken® is prepared using Broaster pressure fryers, proprietary marinades and coatings, and the company’s specific cooking process.
That means Broasted chicken isn’t simply another name for fried chicken. While both are cooked in oil, pressure frying is what gives Broasted chicken its signature combination of a crispy exterior and juicy interior.

1. Brass Rail — Grandy

Located along Highway 65 a few minutes north of Cambridge, Brass Rail received the most votes in Give Me The Mike’s January 2026 Facebook poll.
Brass Rail has been serving customers in Grandy since May 13, 1969, and Broasted chicken remains the restaurant’s signature dish. The restaurant also offers online ordering and large group orders, making it an option for everything from a quick meal to parties and gatherings.
2. Blacksmith Lounge and Broaster — Hugo

Blacksmith Lounge and Broaster serves Broasted chicken made with fresh, never-frozen chicken that is marinated for hours before cooking. The regular menu includes quarter- and half-chicken dinners, along with broasted potatoes and other sides.
Thursday is chicken night at Blacksmith. As of September 2026, the restaurant offers a half-chicken dinner from 4-9 p.m. Takeout chicken is also available in larger quantities, including 12-, 24- and 36-piece orders.
Good to know: The kitchen is closed from 2-4 p.m. Monday-Friday.
3. Carl’s Corner — Essig

The Hastings M & H has developed a following for the chicken served from its deli. Customers also regularly pair the chicken with potato wedges and other deli sides. The Hastings location is open 24 hours, making it one of the more unusual—and convenient—stops on this list.
5. The Coop — South St. Paul

The Coop has been serving South St. Paul since 1963, and chicken remains at the heart of its menu. The restaurant is just off Interstate 494, west of Concord Street.

7. The Old Log Cabin Restaurant — Forest Lake

The Old Log Cabin is a longtime Forest Lake restaurant serving a broad menu of steaks, seafood, burgers and American comfort food.
